The Pakistan Cricket Board has denied reports claiming that Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan would be removed as Test and ODI captains of the Pakistan side. According to Geo Super, any such report is baseless, and there are no active decisions on the PCB table regarding the same.

No Immediate Plans Of Captaincy Change For PCB

The Geo Super report stated that the selection committee is not discussing any change in leadership currently, and Pakistan are expected to continue with the split captaincy approach as of now.

Recently, there were reports that Saud Shakeel will replace Shan Masood as the Test captain, while Salman Ali Agha will take over the ODI captaincy from Mohammad Rizwan. Salman Ali Agha replaced Rizwan as T20I captain after the Champions Trophy 2025, and the team has done decently under him.

Pressure On Rizwan, Shan Masood To Deliver Positive Results

The pressure on Mohammad Rizwan has increased after Pakistan's ODI series loss against the West Indies. They were eliminated from the group stage in the Champions Trophy as well, and it has created problems for the wicketkeeper batter.

Pakistan have also not done well in the Test format under Shan Masood. They won the series against England after losing the first Test, but overall, the performance of the team has been way below the expected standards.

However, it seems that PCB wants to keep the continuity going for some more time before they make a big decision about the captaincy change. Also, there have been plenty of changes in Pakistan's team in the last few years, which have not allowed the arsenal to settle.

Pakistan will next play a tri-series, which will include Afghanistan and the UAE. The Men in Green will then focus their attention on the Asia Cup, where they would like to do well after their struggles in the recent multi-nation tournaments.
