The Gulf Giants franchise has named former English batter Jonathan Trott as the new head coach of the team ahead of the upcoming ILT20 2026 season. Trott will be replacing former Zimbabwe cricketer and RCB’s IPL 2025 winning coach Andy Flower.

In a systematic coaching overhaul, the Gujarat Giants franchise has also roped in several other former cricketers as part of Trott’s coaching staff.

Gulf Giants Name New Support Staff In Coaching Revamp

On Monday, August 25; the Gulf Giants franchise took to its social media accounts to confirm its new coaching staff, set to be led by Jonathan Trott. The former English cricketer recently helmed the Pretoria Capitals franchise in SA20, before he was replaced by ex-Indian captain and Capitals zealot Sourav Ganguly earlier this month.

Jonathan Trott will be joined by new batting coach Andrew Puttick, new bowling coach Shane Bond, new fielding coach Jamie Troughton and fellow new strength and conditioning coach Nicolas Lee. The four replaced outbound coaching staff members Ottis Gibson, Richard Halsall, Grant Flower and Gary Brent.

The Giants franchise also took this opportunity to bid an appreciative farewell to their outgoing coaches, thanking them for their contribution and professionalism.

Under the tenure of the Andy Flower-led coaching staff, the Gulf Giants franchise secured just four wins and sustained six losses to finish fifth on the six-team ILT20 2025 points table earlier this year.

Nonetheless, in search of their first ILT20 title since winning the 2023 edition, the Giants will now take field in the tournament’s 2026 chapter in January next year. The ILT20 2026 season is scheduled to launch in the first half of January.
