Bollywood star Aamir Khan recently opened up about how his wedding day with Reena Dutta was ruined by a cricket match, specifically, a last-ball six by Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad. The couple had run away and gotten married secretly, but their family were too busy in the India-Pakistan game to notice their absence.

Aamir and Reena had got married secretly in a court when they were young. Aamir was only 21 years old, and the two were very much in love. Their families were against their relationship, especially Reena’s parents, so the two decided to quietly tie the knot without telling anyone.

Aamir Khan’s Wedding Has Secret Connection To Javed Miandad

On their wedding day, they expected that their families would ask where they had been for so long. But to their surprise, no one even noticed their absence because everyone was too busy watching a high-stakes India vs Pakistan cricket match.

“Mujhe laga sab puchenge kahaan the itni der (We thought our families will question us about being so late).” But luckily for them, that day there was an India-Pakistan match and everyone was so engrossed in it. Thus, nobody even noticed that they were not at home," Aamir said (via TOI).

Aamir Khan remembered that match very well. He said that it was the iconic match in which Javed Miandad had scored a six off the last ball, taking the victory away from India. That shot not just killed the dreams of Indian cricket fans but also left Aamir upset. He had just gotten married, but instead of celebrating, he said he fell into depression because of that six.

"It was India-Pakistan match day. The same match where Javed Miandad hit a six on the last ball. We were winning that match so nobody cared to ask us about our absence for so long. I too joined them and was watching cricket, however, Javed’s six ruined it all," he added.

Years later, Aamir met Javed Miandad on a flight and jokingly explained that his six ruined his wedding day.

"Once I happened to meet him on the flight when I told him, ‘Javed bhai aapne theek nahi kiya. Aapne meri shadi barbaad kardi (You ruined my wedding). He was like, ‘Kaise? (How)’ I said, ‘Usi din aapne chakka mara tha. Depression mein chala gaya tha mai," Khan concluded.

Eventually, Reena’s family found out about the marriage. Her father was so shocked that he suffered a heart attack. But that incident also brought the two families closer, and Reena’s family accepted the marriage.

However, Reena and Aamir Khan fell out of love as they got divorced in 2002, and the actor got married to filmmaker Kiran Rao.
