Javed Miandad, the former Pakistani cricketer and captain, sparked controversy recently when he made a statement declaring that having family ties with notorious underworld figure and India's most wanted terrorist, Dawood Ibrahim, was an "honor."

Former Pakistani renowned cricketer Javed Miandad previously grabbed headlines for his unpleasant and aggressive statements against India. But this time, Miandad drew widespread criticism while defending his in-law, who also happens to be India's most wanted terrorist.

In a recent interview with Pakistani journalist Hassan Nisar, Javed Miandad said he is honored to have close family ties with underworld don and convicted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.

For the unversed, Dawood's daughter Mahrukh married Miandad's son Junaid in Dubai back in 2005 amidst tight security.

Further elaborating on his relationship with the underworld mafia boss, Miandad said he had ties with Ibrahim even before their children embraced marital bliss.

“I have known him for a long time, from Dubai. It is an honour for me that his daughter married my son. My daughter-in-law is very well-educated; she studied in a convent school and went to a renowned university,” Miandad told Hassan Nisar.

Javed Miandad further claimed that Dawood Ibrahim's family is highly misjudged. The public perception is far more negative, while in reality, things are completely different.

“Understanding the real Dawood Ibrahim is not easy. The way people think about the family, they are not like that,” he added.

While for Miandad, Dawood Ibrahim might be his in-law, in the court of law, he is a criminal who claimed endless lives of innocent people.

Ibrahim is a proven mastermind behind the 1993 serial bomb blast that rocked India's financial capital, Mumbai. 250 innocent souls lost their lives while hundreds were wounded. He also ran an organized crime syndicate called 'D-Company' during the 80s.

However, after the Indian government convicted him in multiple murder and terrorist cases, Dawood Ibrahim fled to Pakistan and is rumored to be residing in a posh area in Karachi, under the protection of Pakistan military services.
