In a brainfade moment, Yashasvi Jaiswal threw his wicket away on 87 in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Facing Ben Stokes, the Indian opener went for a big cut but edged it to Jamie Smith, and fans were livid with his shot selection.
On Day 1 of the second Test, India batted first and lost KL Rahul early on 2 off 26. A couple of close DRS calls went in India’s favour, and Jaiswal knitted a strong 66-run partnership with skipper Shubman Gill for the third wicket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Throws His Wicket On 87
Meanwhile, England skipper Ben Stokes took the responsibility to bowl the 46th over with an aim to get a breakthrough for his side. Jaiswal, who looked set for a century at 87, fell to a bottom edge while attempting a cut shot off a short and wide delivery.
The edge was safely taken by wicket-keeper Jamie Smith behind the stumps, and Stokes let out a roar of celebration, pumping his fists wildly and charging towards his team-mates.
Yashasvi Jaiswal stood aghast, obviously disappointed at going without what would have been an excellent hundred. He had played some glorious strokes, 13 boundaries among them, and was calm for most of his 107-ball innings. However, the cut shot, which he attempted multiple times with mixed results, finally brought his downfall.
Meanwhile, fans on social media lashed out at him for playing a careless shot. While some praised his 87-run knock, many criticised him for bottling what could have been an easy hundred.

Coming back to the ball, it wasn’t a threatening delivery, but Ben Stokes will take it with both hands. The timing couldn’t have been better for England, as India was looking to build a big first-innings score. Jaiswal's wicket gave the hosts a crucial opening.
At Jaiswal’s dismissal, India had 161 runs on the board at the loss of 3 wickets.
