After starting the five-match T20I series with a massive win, the India Women's team extended their winning streak with another dominating win in the second T20I. Among all the brilliant performances, Amonjot Kaur’s pure all-round brilliance stole the show.
With her maiden half-century, she lit up the big stage. After the electrifying knock, she reflected on the milestone and gave credit to a fellow Indian batter who inspired her along the way.
Amanjot Reflects On Her Maiden Fifty
As India carried on their winning momentum into the second T20I match of the series, young all-rounder Amanjot Kaur grabbed the limelight. After the top order shuffled initially, she stood tall and smashed her maiden fifty and played an unbeaten knock of 63 runs, driving India to a strong total.
The first ones are always special and Amanjot’s maiden fifty was no different. As quoted by ICC, while reflecting on that, the youngster labeled it as ‘first of many’ and is already setting her sights on bigger milestones ahead in her promising journey.
“It is the first of many (50s). I am being called an all-rounder. But I'd still say that I am the purest of the batters and purest of bowlers,” Kaur said.
It was not just the fifty; she secured the crucial wicket of Nat Sciver-Brunt in the second innings as the batter walked away scoring 13 runs. When asked about her strategy against the star English batter, Amanjot kept it easy, saying the plan was simple.
“My plan (against Brunt) was very simple. I wanted to keep it on the stump and bowl. We knew 170 was a par total on this wicket,” she added.
Amanjot Credits Jemimah For Guidance
After India lost both the openers in just 30 runs, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur walked away scoring 1 run, Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur took the helm. The duo stitched a crucial 93-run partnership. After the match, Amanjot praised Jemimah for guiding her through the tough phase.
“The credit goes to Jemi (Rodrigues), the way she paced her innings. She told me to stay on the wicket,” she said.
Winning a series on foreign soil is never easy, but India Women’s side has already set its sights on it. As they are ready to step into the third T20I, Amanjot said that the ‘New Indian Team’ is ready to dominate.
“This is a new Indian team, wherever we go, home or away, we are ready to dominate,” she added.
With a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series, India Women’s team is all set to face England Women in the third T20I on July 4.
