Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) splashed out 27 crores to acquire the services of former Delhi Capitals captain, Rishabh Pant in the IPL mega auction. Pant, a superstar of the game led the Delhi side in couple of seasons and it was expected that he'll be the one to lead LSG from the next season onwards.
Former skipper of the Lucknow side, KL Rahul departed and joined Pant's team, Delhi Capitals in the auction, and when LSG bought the left-handed batter, everyone expected that he has been roped in to fill the captaincy void left by KL Rahul. However, team owner, Sanjiv Goenka has dropped a bombshell regarding the captaincy saga.
As per him, the captaincy is yet to be finalised with the team having 4 leaders in the squad - mainly Aiden Markram, Pant, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran. Goenka stated that the team has a strong leadership group which will further enhance the team ahead of the next season.
“We have four leaders in our team – Rishabh (Pant), Pooran, Markram and Mitch Marsh. So it becomes a very strong leadership pool of intellect and thought, and strategy. They are all people who can go with the mindset to win. Rishabh has the hunger and passion to win. So a good team has been built,” Sanjiv Goenka said.
Pant created history in IPL auction
Rishabh Pant was a hot commodity in the IPL auction and the Indian keeper created history as he became the most expensive buy in IPL history. Pant surpassed Mitch Starc, who was bought for a whopping 24.75 crore by KKR before the 2024 season.
On the other hand, KL Rahul, who had a beef with Sanjiv Goenka was released on the retention day and he was bought by the Delhi Capitals for just 14 crore as even DC are looking for a solid captaincy option.
