IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Overpriced Or Justified; Did LSG Pay Too Much For Rishabh Pant?

In a shocking turn of events, Rishabh Pant has broken all records and has become the costliest player for all time in the IPL auction history. He has been bought for INR 27 Cr by the Lucknow Super Giants. 

As soon as Pant's price was revealed the fans were of the opinion that Pant was overpriced in the event. Let us try and analyse if the price paid for Pant was justified or was it too much?

Captaincy Candidate

Rishabh Pant has led the DC in the IPL as a captain. With KL Rahul released by LSG, they needed a player to lead them in the franchise. Pant having had the captaincy experience perfectly fits into this category. 

Match Winner In the Middle Order

LSG often struggled during the IPL 2024 because of the absence of an impactful batter in the middle order. Rishabh Pant so far in his career has shown that he is an impactful batter and match winner on his day in the middle order. As the team has previously  struggled for the middle-order batters, the addition fo Pant seems like a great addition. 

Prefers Tough Conditions To Perform

The pitch at the Bharat Ratna Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Satdium has often given challenges to the batters. There have been two decks used at this venue and the two surfaces have provided different challenges. While one wicket has provided help for the spinners the other has been helpful for the pacers. Rishabh Pant likes to take the challenge and perform in this type of conditions. Thus Pant will be a solid influence in the middle order of the LSG.

Conclusion

Looking at the demands that LSG had ahead of the auction, Rishabh Pant looks like a solid by the franchise. With Pant filling in three roles at a time and the promised impact of the batter, the price paid for the star Indian player looks well justified.
