Rishabh Pant, the star Indian wicketkeeper batter has been sold to LSG at a massive price of 27 Crore. The explosive southpaw was one of the marquee players and after a surprise departure from Delhi Capitals, he was always going to be one of the hot assets in the auction.
Pant is one of the biggest stars in the country and though he has not lived upto his billing in T20Is, his performances in the other formats and even in the IPL has made him a household name. He has the ability to change the game in a flash with his power-hitting antics and has captaincy experience as well. So, in all likelihood he will lead LSG in the upcoming edition of IPL and could well turn the fortunes of the franchise.
Rishabh Pant Becomes Most Expensive Player In IPL History
As soon as Rishabh Pant's name appeared, LSG franchise came up with an opening bid of 2 Crores and it was followed by some intense battle between the Lucknow-based franchise and RCB. The bid quickly crossed 10 Crore mark as both franchises looked determined to get the Indian wicketkeeper batter, but SRH soon joined the bid as RCB backed out and the bid reached a dangerous barrier of 20 Crore with excitement growing with each moment. The bidding stopped at 20.75 Crore but DC used their RTM card. LSG then inflate the price to 27 Crore and it helped them bag Rishabh Pant as he became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL.
Rishabh Pant's IPL Career And Stats
Rishabh Pant started his IPL journey with Delhi Capitals in the 2016 season, and though he did not score many runs, the talent of the man was quite evident. A breakthrough season came in 2018 when he smashed 684 runs at an average of 52.61 and a strike rate of 173.60. His stocks started increasing rapidly and he led DC from the 2021 season. He missed the 2023 season due to gruesome accident, but came back strongly in the 2024 season to score 446 runs at a strike rate of over 155.
