After a lot of speculations, Mumbai Indians announced their retention list and surprisingly, they retained all of their core players for the next season. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma, all were kept in the team as MI aim to build a strong side for the next season.
Talking about MI's skipper, Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder received widespread criticism from the Mumbai Indians fanbase throughout last season. He replaced fan favourite, Rohit Sharma as the captain of the side and the decision didn't go well and the team's performance also got hampered.
The five-time IPL champions, finished at the bottom of the table as Hardik also failed to contribute with both the bat and ball. However, the MI coaching staff and management showed faith in the India star and gave him another chance to prove his captaincy worth. However, for those who don't know, Hardik is all set to miss the first match of the upcoming IPL season and here is the reason why.
Why Hardik will miss MI's first match of the IPL 2025 season?
As per the IPL rules, if any team fails to complete their quota of overs in the allotted time, then the captain faces INR 12 lakh fine for the first time offence.
If the same offence happens again, the skipper faces INR 24 lakh fine and if the offence is repeated for the third time, then the captain gets a one-match ban. In this case, the captain is fined INR 30 lakh and the other players are fined 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees. Also, the skipper then gets banned for the next match.
Hardik and Mumbai Indians' last offence took place in their final league stage match against the Lucknow Super Giants and hence, Hardik is all set to miss the tournament opener, next season.
