The wait is over and the Border-Gavaskar Series is right upon us as India and Australia fight it out in a 5-match Test series for supremacy. The two sides are arguably the best in this format and it will be a fascinating contest to watch between two evenly matched sides.

Interestingly, India have won the last four Border-Gavaskar series, with Australia last winning the 2014-15 tour. Since then, India have dominated the contest and have also won back-to-back series, Down Under.

However, the upcoming series will be a tough challenge for the visiting Indian side. After the drubbing at the hands of New Zealand, they need to beat the Aussies, 4-0 to seal their place in the WTC finals. India do have the firepower to defeat the Australian team, and for that their key players need to perform. The likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah are huge draws and ahead of the series, we look at some of the milestones these big players can achieve in the series.

Kohli eyes Ponting's record

  • Kohli needs 350 runs to eclipse Ricky Ponting and become the third highest run-scorer in international cricket. The top two in the list are Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara.

Bumrah eyes fastest 200 wickets milestone

  • Jasprit Bumrah needs just 27 wickets to complete 200 wickets in Tests. He'll be the sixth Indian pacer after Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Shami to achieve the milestone.
  • Also, he has a chance to become the fastest Indian pacer to 200 Test wickets. The current record is being held by Kapil Dev (50 Tests), while Bumrah has played 40 Tests.

Jaiswal nears coach Gambhir's milestone

  • Jaiswal needs just 15 runs to go past his head coach, Gautam Gambhir and become the Indian left-hander with most Test runs in a calendar year. Gambhir had scored 1134 runs in 2008.
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal needs 444 runs to become India’s leading run-scorer in a calendar year. Tendulkar holds the record with 1562 runs in 2010.
