For the first time in the history of Border-Gavaskar Trophy, two bowlers will lead their respective sides as Pat Cummins and Jasprit Bumrah will re-write history on November 22. The two leaders of their respective pace attacks will walk out to the field on Friday to lead their side in the historic Perth Test.

Cummins, already has 3 years of experience as the Australian Test captain, whereas Bumrah has previously captained once and it came in a losing cause against England in 2022. With no Rohit Sharma in the side due to the birth of his child, India decided to appoint Bumrah as the captain for the first Test, and it is a move which has been welcomed by everyone.

In world cricket, not too many bowlers get appointed as the skipper of their team. There have been handful of bowlers who have led their side, and hence, it is a monumental moment for the Indian pacer. Ahead of the series opener, Pat Cummins attended the pre-match press conference and welcomed this move to appoint Bumrah as the captain of the side.

"It’s always special when pacers lead teams—should happen more!, Cummins said as quoted by RevSportz.

Bumrah face stern test as captain of the team

The upcoming match in Perth will be a litmus Test for the newly appointed skipper. He doesn't have Rohit Sharma to guide him, plus, Shubman Gill has been ruled out due to a left thumb injury, and hence, the batting order needs a rejig.

Bumrah also has a big decision to make regarding the opening slot. With no Rohit in the side, will he prompt KL Rahul to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Also, the skipper has to decide who will be the other two pacers alongside him.

Mohammed Siraj has been out of form, and it has tempted Bumrah to hand the debut cap to Harshit Rana, who alongside Akash Deep will form the pace trio for the riveting Perth Test.
