In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI), confirmed IPL 2025 mega auction venue as Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The mega event spread across two days, November 24 and 25, was initially scheduled for Riyadh before BCCI made last minute changes due to logistical difficulties.
IPL 2025 mega auction will officially be held on November 24 and 25 at the Jeddah City in Saudi Arabia. BCCI confirmed the news earlier today as players registration deadline ended on November 4. As confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, a total of 1574 players will be down under the hammer, including 320 capped, 1224 uncapped, 409 overseas and 30 players from associate nations.
Each franchise will be allowed to have a maximum of 25 member squad with the total purse limit set to INR 120 crores. A total of 204 slots are up for grabs as teams have already filled a few slots with retention.
Venue changed from Riyadh to Jeddah at the last minute
Notably, BCCI had earlier shortlisted Riyadh as the final venue to host the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, according to Sportstar, the venue was changed to Jeddah at the last minute due to logistical difficulties. Now, the auction will take place at the Abadi Al-Johar Arena in Jeddah, which is 10 minutes away from Hotel Shangri-la.
Additionally, the IPL 2025 mega auction is set to clash with the Perth Test between India and Australia, with Disney+Hotstar being the common live-streaming channel. Luckily, due to the time difference, both events will be broadcasted smoothly, with the mega auction taking the afternoon slot.
All eyes now on November 24, 25 as several high profile names, including Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will be up for sale. An intense bidding war is expected between the franchises with RTM cards adding drama to the already complicated auction process.
3 players likely to break the bank in upcoming auction
IPL 2025 mega auction is set to kick off later this month and three captaincy candidates KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant are likely to fetch a record price. The trio are well established players in international cricket with an ideal captaincy record. Hence, teams like RCB, PBKS, LSG and DC will target at least 1 player to resolve captaincy conundrum.
