Punjab Kings produced the surprise of the evening when they just retained two players on the deadline day. Only Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh were retained as the entire squad was released ahead of the mega auction, set to take place this month.

They have a whopping 110.50 crore to spend in the mega auction and the money allows PBKs to build their squad from the scratch as they look to win the IPL title for the first time. The team from Punjab can utilise the Right To Match Card (RTM) and it potentially allows them to buy quality players at low cost.

So, we look at 3 players on whom Punjab Kings can use the RTM card so as to potentially go on and win the league.

3) Sam Curran

The English all-rounder was drafted in the side due to his promising stats for his nation. However, Curran failed to justify the price tag on him as the all-rounder looked a pale shadow of himself in the IPL.

He was bought for INR 18.50 crore in the mini auction ahead of IPL 2023, but the Kings failed to get the best out of him. However, his ability to bowl in the slog overs combined with his batting prowess at number 6 or 7, makes him a useful commodity and if the right price comes in, Punjab could be in line to use the RTM on him.

2) Liam Livingstone

Another Englishman on the list is Liam Livingstone. Just like Curran, he was bought in with a lot of faith, but the explosive batter blew hot and cold as PBKS decided to release him ahead of the mega auction.

He was bought for INR 11.50 crore in the 2022 auction, but Livingstone couldn't justify the price tag. However, his ability to shift gears and strike at more than 150 is a special attraction and PBKS is likely to go after him through the RTM card.

1) Arshdeep Singh

Perhaps the surprise of the retention day was that Punjab Kings didn't retain the services of star pacer, Arshdeep Singh. The decision raised eyebrows as the left-arm seamer was their best bowler for the last three seasons.

He is one of the best T20 bowlers of modern era and PBKS shouldn't miss a chance to go after him through RTM. Despite having plethora of money, they need a quality Indian seamer and no one better than Arshdeep to go after.
