The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, unveiled phase 1 of the matches of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, which is being done due to the soon-to-start general elections in India.

Interestingly, the schedule has Delhi Capitals playing their first two home matches at Visakhapatnam and not the original home ground in Delhi - Arun Jaitley Stadium.

As per a report by Cricbuzz, the BCCI purposely opted to schedule DC matches in Vizag owing to Delhi hosting Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 matches, which could see the ground take quite a wear and tear.

WPL matches are to be played between March 5 and 17 in Delhi, where BCCI and DC expressed concerns over the playing conditions of the ground, having already hosted 11 consecutive matches.

"We felt it necessary to allow the ground some respite following the WPL matches."

The BCCI release also confirms about the same in their statement.

"Having chosen to play their first two home matches in Visakhapatnam, the Delhi Capitals will first host the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, 31st March in the port city and will then face the Kolkata Knight Riders at the same venue on Wednesday, 3rd April."

The report also confirmed that DC will hold all their remaining five home matches in Delhi.

Capitals start their IPL 2024 journey on March 23, taking on Punjab Kings in Mohali, and then move to Jaipur for the second match against Rajasthan Royals, before heading to Vizag for their back-to-back home matches. Their final phase 1 match will be against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on April 7.
