The Women’s Premier League (2024) season is all set to commence from February 23 onwards at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. As the anticipation surges for the high-profile Indian T20 event, here at OneCricket, we take a look at three batters who can potentially make the most impact over the course of its three-week run.

Three Batters To Watch Out For In WPL 2024:

1. Smriti Mandhana (RCB Women)

Belligerent Indian T20 striker Smriti Mandhana underwent a below-par WPL 2023 season last year. Leading and opening the innings for the RCB franchise throughout the inaugural event, the dashing opener minted just 149 runs from eight innings at an average of 18.62, as opposed to her career T20I average of 27.46.

The WPL 2024 season presents Mandhana a huge opportunity to reverse her disastrous tournament record. For starters, the 27-year-old will be playing the first half of the season in front of RCB’s home crowd at a high-scoring Bengaluru venue.

Smriti Mandhana is also in sublime T20 nick at the moment, considering she recently crafted over 100 runs against a seasoned Australian attack across just three innings of India’s home series earlier this year.

2. Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals Women)

Australian legend Meg Lanning recently announced her retirement from all forms of international cricket. Leaving behind an unmatched legacy for Australia, the 32-year-old will now be aiming to extend her dominance in WPL circuit for the Delhi Capitals Women.

Lanning led the Delhi Capitals franchise to the final of the inaugural WPL season last year with a table-topping run at the league stage. However, their unstoppable juggernaut was halted by Mumbai Indians in the final.

Lanning tallied 345 runs throughout the competition to finish as it’s highest run-getter. She also punched out a sizzling 35 in the final, albeit in a losing cause at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. Considering her WPL form and overall T20 experience, the legendary Australia-based opener will once again start out as one of the favorites to make headlines with the bat this season.

3. Beth Mooney (Gujarat Giants Women)

While Beth Mooney was designated as Gujarat Giants captain for the inaugural WPL season last year, she was ruled out of the tournament after the opening game itself owing to a calf injury.

A veteran of 95 international matches for Australia Women, Mooney averages a staggering 41.25 in the format. The dashing wicketkeeper-batter has blasted 22 half-centuries and two tons in her glittering career.

Currently on course to lead the Gujarat Giants for the entirety of WPL 2024 season, the 30-year-old will be keen to leave a mark this time around.
