Mumbai and Maharasthra are taking on each other in a high voltage clash in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. This match is being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Mumbai's skipper, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first. Maharasthra's innings was opened by Arshin Kulkarni and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The team would have hoped for a steady yet dynamic start from the duo and that looked like happening.

Shreyas Iyer Takes A Brilliant Catch of Shardul Thakur's Bowling To Send Gaikwad Back

Ruturaj was in a fine touch as was evident from the shots that he played to star his innings. It was looking that he will stay in the middle and might play a long innings. However, Shardul Thakur soon changed the momentum as he sent his Ex-CSK mate and skipper back to the hut.

On the fifth delivery of the third over, Thakur bowled a shortish delivery around the off stump line. Gaikwad planted his front foot ahead and tried to clear mid-wicket fence with a big swing across the line. However, the connection was not right and the ball skied up in the air. Shreyas Iyer, who was fielding at short mid-wicket ran back and took a stunning catch on the motion to send the star batter back to the hut for 19 runs off 10 deliveries.

Chennai Super Kings Ignored Shardul Thakur In IPL 2025 Auction

Notably, Shardul Thakur was a part of the Chennai Super Kings during IPL 2024. This was after he had a successful stint with the franchise from 2018 to 2021. During IPL 2022 and 2023, he was playing with a couple of other franchises but failed to give notable performances. On his return to CSK also, Shardul failed to leave the same impact as before.

Ahead of IPL 2025 auction, CSK released the Indian bowling all-rounder. When Shardul Thakur's name came up in the auction, CSK did not bid for him and neither did any other team. Ultimatley, the player went unsold. Immediately after this Shardul dismissing Ruturaj seems a bit ironic.
