On Monday, October 21, Mumbai released the squad for the third round of Ranji Trophy 2024. There were several changes from the second round, as Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tanush Kotian were a few big names missing from the 16-member list.

While SKY opted out because of personal reasons and Kotian got selected for India A squad, Shaw's exclusion felt was because of his poor run in the domestic circuit. He has not been in good form in recent times and could manage scores of just 7, 12, 1 and 39 in the four innings in Ranji Trophy 2024.

Fitness And Indiscipline Behind Shaw's Ouster From Mumbai Squad

However, in the latest events, there are reports that form is not the reason behind Shaw's ouster, but rather, the MCA officials have dropped Shaw from the squad to teach him a lesson about his discipline and fitness issues.

According to a report from Indian Express, the selectors are unhappy with Shaw's fitness and reported that Shaw's  body contains 35 per cent fat and he needs rigorous training before he gets back into the side.

“He has been dropped, and needs to go back to training and shed some body weight to be considered for selection,” an MCA official said.

Shaw's Casual Attitude Towards Training

Shaw has a history of disciplinary issues. Meanwhile, according to cricbuzz, The Mumbai selection committee, comprising Sanjay Patil (chairman), Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar, and Vikrant Yeligeti, believe that Shaw should be dropped for at least one game as he has been irregular to nets and practice sessions.

According to a senior MCA source, both the selectors and the team management, including the captain and coach, were on the same page to leave Shaw out of the squad. It is worth noting that Mumbai will face Tripura in Agartala from October 26 to 29.
