What is Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament 2024?

The Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament is one of the oldest and prestigious first-class competitions in India. Named after Indian cricket pioneer M. Buchi Babu Naidu, the first edition was played out in 1909-1910, i.e., a year after the cricketer’s death.

While it started as a memorial event, the Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament soon gained traction and became an invitational competition when the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) took over control in the late 1960s.

It also remained India’s biggest first-class event until Ranji Trophy competition formed its roots in 1934, i.e., during India’s colonial era.

Fast track to 2024, Buchi Babu Tournament remains an admirable platform for emerging stars from all over the country, with several state teams and cricket clubs taking part in the event on an annual basis. The TNCA-backed tournament is also often touted as a starting point of India’s fresh domestic season each year.

The upcoming 2024 edition of the Buchi Babu Tournament is scheduled to commence on August 15 with four different four-day fixtures. With several associations gearing up to test their bench strengths before the launch of a hectic 2024-25 season, the tournament will also be graced by India’s international stars Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan.
