The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to decide its stance over the possible implementation of the ‘Impact Player’ rule at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 competition. However, as per reports, the 12th player of the squad will be entitled to full match fees if the rule is implemented by the Indian board.

The ‘Impact Player’ rule made its way to India’s domestic circuit through the IPL 2023 season. The aforementioned rule allows both competing teams to replace a player with any of the four substitutes at any stage of the game.

While the ‘Impact Player’ rule has proven to be effective for several IPL franchises, numerous fans and cricket experts have lambasted the regulation by alleging that it reduces the influence of all-rounders.

BCCI states Impact Players entitled to full match fees

As BCCI continues to consider the possibility of implementing the ‘Impact Player’ rule at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 competition, the board has confirmed that the 12th selected player will indeed be entitled to full match fees if the rule ever comes to full effect.

The official statement released by the BCCI reads:

With regards to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, if a team decides to use the 'Impact Player' during the match, he will be eligible for 100 per cent match fees over and above the playing XI.”

The implementation of the ‘Impact Player’ rule in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 might well influence its usage for the future seasons of the IPL. While several franchises have backed the rule, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal condemned the same by describing it unfavorable for the development of all-rounders.
