The third match of the WPL 2024 season between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians Women witnessed a healthy turnout at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. A huge number of fans and loyalists of both franchises turned up at the stadium to showcase their support for their favorite teams and players.

In a shocking turn of events amidst the festive cricketing spirit, a few Mumbai Indians fans were barred from waving their team flag by the stadium volunteers.

Prior to the match, Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to field first. Her bowlers responded well to the call, considering each of her frontline options claimed early wickets in their respective spells to jolt the Gujarat Giants batting line-up.

While the occasion evidently called for a celebration among Mumbai Indians fans in the stands, several of them were barred from waving their team flags by WPL 2024 volunteers and officials employed at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Caught on camera, one of the stadium volunteers can be heard saying:

“You can record it (the match). But today, this stadium is serving as a home ground for Gujarat Giants and you are not supposed to have this Mumbai Indians flag.”

It is worth noting that the match is indeed a home game for the Gujarat Giants, considering the WPL 2024 schedule features a home and away format even though the entire five-team event is taking place only across two venues.

Their return fixture, set to be played on March 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, will be a home game for the Mumbai Indians.
