Lahore Qalandars' captain, Shaheen Afridi, turned the tide with a magnificent display of fast bowling against Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2024 clash on Sunday. Afridi, renowned for his lethal pace and pinpoint accuracy, delivered when his team needed him the most, halting the rampant Saim Ayub in his tracks.

The match, saw Zalmi opener Saim Ayub, known for his explosive left-handed batting, dominate the proceedings with an outstanding innings that had the spectators on the edge of their seats. Ayub's scintillating performance, which included eight fours and four sixes, was a sight to behold as he raced towards what seemed an inevitable century.

However, his spectacular knock was cut short by Afridi's brilliance in the 18th over. Demonstrating his skillset, Afridi bowled a sensational yorker that swung in late to dismantle the stumps, sending Ayub back to the pavillion for an impressive 88 off 55 balls.

The dismissal came at a crucial juncture, with Zalmi looking to maximize their innings' closing stages. Despite Ayub's departure, contributions from Babar Azam (48) and Rovman Powell (45 off 20 balls) propelled Peshawar Zalmi to a formidable total of 211/4 in their 20 overs. This set the stage for an intriguing chase by the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, who had entered the match under pressure following a challenging start to the tournament with four consecutive defeats.

Afridi's leadership and bowling performance were vital in reinvigorating the Qalandars' campaign. Finishing his spell with impressive figures of 3/33 from his four overs, Afridi demonstrated his capability to lead from the front and inject momentum into his team's performance.
