Ahead of the three-game ODI series against England, India captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer left Mumbai for Nagpur to feature in the 1st ODI. The series is set to begin from February 6 and it's a crucial series for India keeping the Champions Trophy in sight.
India won the five-game T20I series against England after taking an unassailable 3-1 lead in Pune. The two teams will now face each other in a 3-game ODI series, which is essential for both sides since the Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to start on February 19.
India and England would want to gain the winning momentum and earn some confidence before heading into the high-pressure tournament.
Rohit Sharma leaves for Nagpur for 1st ODI
Meanwhile, on February 2, Indian team members were spotted at the Mumbai International Airport, departing for Nagpur to feature in the 1st ODI scheduled to go on floors on February 6. Captain Rohit Sharma was accompanied by Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.
The ODI series will be treated as a trial run for India ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. The men in blue will be playing their games in Dubai since the Pakistan Cricket Board agreed to a hybrid model.
That being said, Rohit, Jaiswal and Iyer will be under scrutiny in the ODI series as they registered shambolic scores in the Ranji Trophy games. Only Gill managed to impress with a hundred.
Virat Kohli, another vital figure in the ODI lineup, will likely join the team in Nagpur soon. He also played the Ranji Trophy game for Delhi but scored only 6 runs.
India has gone for a balanced side for the Champions Trophy 2025. It will be led by Rohit Sharma, who will have Shubman Gill as his deputy. Still, the one missing link here is Jasprit Bumrah, whose participation remains subject to fitness. He had a back spasm during the Border-Gavaskar series and has not played since then.
