RCB’s inspiring journey to the IPL 2024 season playoffs came to an end as RR beat them by 4 wickets in the eliminator round. Following the loss, the atmosphere inside the dressing room was gloomy as Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Dinesh Karthik shared their parting words.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were invincible in May as they won 6 games on a trot to qualify for the playoffs at just 14 points. However, the dreamy run was halted by Rajasthan Royals (RR) as the latter knocked out RCB in the eliminator round. 

RCB’s 172 runs total was not good enough as RR managed to chase it down with 6 balls to spare and advance to the Qualifier 2 stage.

RCB players dejected

That being said, RCB players, who had a remarkable comeback into the tournament, were visibly dejected back in the dressing room.

Faf du Plessis, the captain said the last six games were special and hence the loss was disappointing as they wanted to produce something even more extraordinary by winning those three games and claim the trophy. 

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, admitted that RCB’s first half was under par. But the way the team regained confidence and came back from the absolute bottom was a memory he will carry with himself for a long period of time. 

Dinesh Karthik, who is rumoured to have taken his retirement from IPL, said in sports, there is never a fairytale ending. In the league stages, everything went in RCB’s favour, and they qualified. However, the eliminator game offered them a hard reality check.

It marks the 17th year of RCB going down with a trophy as the wait for the ultimate title continues.
