Veteran off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as the hero for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Eliminator game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

Ashwin struck twice in one over, dismissing the well settled Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell. Ashwin won the Most Valuable Player of the game award for his excellent spell.

In four overs, Ashwin conceded only 19 runs while taking 2 crucial wickets. Notably, Ashwin was at the crease when Powell, similar of Dhoni's style, hit the winning six for the Royals.

"The first half of the season my body wasn't moving at all and I felt I wasn't able to complete my action on many times. I had a little bit of abdomen injury as well so I couldn't really get through it a lot. Having committed to your franchisee and the kind of boys we have in the dressing room I wanted to put my body on the line in many of the games."

"I think our greatest strength is the exuberance of youth and the experience we have got to support that. Now that Hettie (Shimron Hetmyer) is back in, and Rovman (Powell) got a few boundaries today as well. We've got Keshav (Maharaj) sitting outside. We have the right momentum for this team going forward" - Ashwin said.

Rajasthan experienced a bad phase after dominating the first half of the season. They many losses in the second half os season but managed to qualify for the playoffs and regained momentum when it was most needed.

Ashwin highlighted the team's strength, attributing it to a mix of experience and youth. As the senior-most player of Rajasthan, Ashwin emphasized the responsibility of leading the team, especially in the absence of Jos Buttler

Alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, it falls upon Ashwin to guide the young players of RR towards their second IPL title.

Rajasthan Royals will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier of IPL which happens at Chennai.
