The first Test of the five-match series is underway in Hyderabad between India and England. While the players are battling it out in the middle, fans from both teams were spotted engaging in another battle.

During the Tea break of the ongoing first Test, the Barmy Army, the renowned England cricket team’s fan club, released a video in which two fans—one from England and two from India—were asked to choose a better cricketer between Ben Stokes and Virat Kohli.

As expected, the English fan sided with the current Test captain Stokes. However, he also admitted that while Kohli is a better batter, Stokes' all-round ability makes him a better cricketer.

“It has to be Ben Stokes. Has to be Ben Stokes. Captain, bowler, batsman, fielder. The batter better—I would have to go with Kohli, but Stokes without a shadow of a doubt is a better cricketer,” asserted the English fan.

“Virat obviously. I mean, he's a great cricketer. There's no comparison. Better bowler? Yeah, Stokes, but I don’t think he's a better cricketer than Kohli. He has won series away from India, matches away from India. What do you guys do when you went to Australia last time? Losing 5-0,”  said one Indian fan.

“There’s no comparison; they’re two different cricketers. Virat Kohli as a captain is more successful than Ben Stokes as captain,”  echoed the other Indian fan.

Such comparisons have been ongoing for a while. Both cricketers have established themselves as greats in their own right. Stokes and Kohli have delivered standout performances across formats, earning them the distinction of being among the greatest cricketers of all time.

Stokes secured two World Cups for England, playing match-winning knocks in the 2019 World Cup final at Lord’s and the T20 World Cup 2022 final against Pakistan in Melbourne.

In contrast, Kohli, after winning the 2011 World Cup, hasn't been able to secure the trophy again. However, as a captain, he led India to a historic Test series win in Australia, an accomplishment Stokes has yet to achieve in his career.

Both players have crafted their own legacies, serving as inspiration for aspiring cricketers. In the ongoing Hyderabad Test, Stokes is facing challenges as his team struggles against India, which is currently without Kohli. The Indian batting maestro has opted out of the first two Tests but is expected to return for the third Test.
