On the final over of the second day’s play of the first Test match between India and England, Axar Patel tore apart Hartley for three boundaries. In the last three balls of the day’s play, you don’t normally see a batsman going after the bowler in Test cricket. But, Test cricket is no longer played in the same manner.

On the fourth ball of the 110th over, Axar Patel smashed a full-length delivery past mid-on for four. Next delivery was right in his arc and the southpaw launched that one for a six over mid-wicket. Axar Patel didn’t think twice before hitting the last ball of the day for a boundary as well.

India put on 421 for 7 at stumps on Day 2 against England

India’s batting depth has helped them reach more than 400 on the board and still have three wickets left. At stumps on Day 2, Axar Patel is currently unbeaten on 35 off 62, while Ravindra Jadeja has played a crucial unbeaten knock of 81 runs in 155 deliveries.

England had a great start to the day as they had dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal (80 off 74) pretty early in the innings. Shubman Gill played a lot dot balls and in a bid to play a big shot, he lost his wicket, too.

However, KL Rahul then joined the hands of Shreyas Iyer and the duo led the team’s recovery. They added 64 runs for the fourth wicket before Iyer departed on 35.

KL Rahul went on to play a sensational knock of 81 runs in 155 balls. He could have reached his ton but fell prey to Tom Hartely while trying to hit a short-pitched delivery for a six.

India still needed more runs to extend the lead. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja came together and stitched an unbeaten partnership of 63 runs and, thereby, took the lead to 174 runs at stumps. The duo has kept India in a strong position and are on course of winning the Test match.
