Out-of-favour Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad has joined the Fortune Barishal camp in Sylhet for the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 season. The cricketer landed in Bangladesh as Shoaib Malik’s replacement, just a day prior to Fortune Barishal’s BPL 2024 clash against Chattogram Challengers.

Former Pakistan captain and star all-rounder left Fortune Barishal midway into the BPL 2024 season. After playing just three matches for the franchise, Shoaib Malik returned to Dubai citing personal reasons.

Notably, Malik’s midway exit led to a media speculation that the Fortune Barishal franchise had terminated his contract over alleged match-fixing concerns. However, the team’s co-owner denied all allegations and maintained that Malik has been an excellent asset for them.

Meanwhile, Shehzad was roped in by the franchise as Malik’s replacement, and the star opening batsman landed in Sylhet on January 26, i.e., a day prior to Barishal’s must-win match against Chattogram Challengers.

Shehzad took to X (formerly Twitter) and expressed his excitement of joining the Barishal squad for the ongoing BPL 2024 season in Sylet.

“Landed in Sylhet for Bangladesh Premier League 2024. First match tomorrow In Shaa Allah! Go, Fortune Barishal.”

After defeating Rangpur Riders in their opening game of the season, the Fortune Barishal lost out to table-toppers Khulna Tigers and Comilla Victorians in successive matches. With a solitary win from their first three fixtures, they are currently placed at number five on the seven-team BPL 2024 points table.
