Hardik Pandya certainly had a season to forget as Mumbai Indians captain. Under his leadership, the team registered just four wins and sustained nine heavy defeats to get crashed out of the IPL 2024 playoffs race.
Pandya was appointed as Mumbai Indians captain shortly after the IPL 2024 auction late last year, thus replacing five-time winner and decade-long skipper Rohit Sharma in the process. As the Mumbai Indians franchise braces itself to face LSG in their final league match of the season, the dashing all-rounder was recently asked to summarise his captaincy style.
Hardik Pandya talks about his captaincy style
While speaking with the Star Sports Network, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya described himself as a “simple” captain who prefers to play alongside his 10 other teammates on the field. The 30-year-old added that he backs his players and expect them to be at their best.
Hardik Pandya first landed a captaincy gig in IPL back in 2022 for the Gujarat Titans franchise. After leading them to title-triumph in his maiden year as captain, the all-rounder led the Titans to another remarkable runners-up campaign the following season.
In November 2023, Pandya was acquired by the Mumbai Indians franchise and was fast-tracked to become their full-time captain after they endured a couple of disappointing seasons under Rohit Sharma.
Having secured just four wins from 13 league games, Pandya-led Mumbai Indians is currently positioned at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table. A win over LSG at this stage of the tournament might help them displace Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans to avoid a bottom-placed finish.
