SRH captain Pat Cummins and Daniel Vettori share a laugh before washout vs GT (BCCI)
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have qualified for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs with a league game to spare after their match against Gujarat Titans (GT) was washed out due to rains.
After the rain-soddened outcome in Hyderabad, the ‘Orange Army’ finds itself placed at number three on the 10-team IPL 2024 points table, only trailing behind Rajasthan Royals (RR) and table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
SRH qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs, joins KKR and RR
The Sunrisers Hyderabad became the third team of the IPL 2024 season to qualify for the playoffs after table-toppers KKR and Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals.
Under the leadership of Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins, the SRH franchise has secured seven wins from its first 12 fixtures before their penultimate league game against Gujarat Titans was washed out without a ball being bowled.
They will now face a struggling Punjab Kings bunch in their final league of the season on May 19 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
While the ‘Orange Army’ has already qualified for the playoffs, they will be required to defeat PBKS in a bid to secure a top two finish on the points table at the end of the league stage.
Moreover, Cummins and co. will also be hoping that Rajasthan Royals loses its final league game against KKR to remain stuck at 16 points.
Earlier this week, Shreyas Iyer-led KKR became the first team to confirm a top two finish for itself after their match against Gujarat Titans was abandoned in Ahmedabad.
The IPL 2024 playoffs will commence with the first qualifier on May 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Roughly a week later on May 26, Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium will host the title clash to bring curtains to a blockbuster season.
