Sri Lanka Women triumphed against all odds and won the Asia Cup against tournament favourites India, in a rather one-sided contest.

Batting first, the Indian team scored a decent 165/6, courtesy, Smriti Mandhana's fifty and a quick-fire cameo from Richa Ghosh. The target of 166, especially in the finals looked a big ask for the hosts, Sri Lanka, but Athapaththu played a blinder and alongside Harshitha Samarawickrama, steered her side to title victory.

Athapaththu gets emotional after SL's title win

This was Sri Lanka's first Asia Cup title, and they also revenge of last editions' final, when India defeated them to win their seventh title. After the win, the Lankan skipper, Athapaththu got emotional and could be seen crying. Moreover, a video went viral, where she could be seen hugging her ailing mother. The skipper also handed over the trophy to her mother in a touching moment.

The Women's Asia Cup was Athapaththu's crowning moment. She led from the front and was adjudged the Player of the Tournament. The dynamic batter amassed 304 runs in 5 innings, at a strike-rate of 146.86.

Moreover, she also became the first batter to score a century in Women's Asia Cup, when she hammered 119* off 66 deliveries against Malaysia. After the game, she also talked about her ailing mother, and stated that her mother has sacrificed a lot and she dedicates the ton to her.
