The Washington Freedom and the San Francisco Unicorns faced each other in the final of the MLC 2024. This game was being played at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Corey Anderson, the captain of the San Francisco Unicorns won the toss and put the Washington Freedom to bat. The Freedom lost Travis Head early in the innings. However, Steve Smith kept his composure and played a game-changing knock.

Steve Smith saves the day for the Freedom

The skipper of the Washington Freedom scored 88 runs off 52 balls and ensured that he kept going from one end. Smith was accompanied in the middle order by his Australian team-mate, Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder scored a quickfire 40 off 22 balls and added great momentum to the Freedom innings. It was the courtesy of these two knocks that the team was able to post a massive total of 207/5 in their 20 overs.

San Francisco Unicorns crumble like a pack of cards

The San Francisco Unicorns needed their opening duo of Finn Allen and Jake Fraser-McGurk to chase the mammoth target down. However, the Freedom bowlers got quick wickets early in the innigs and never let the Unicorns fly. Steve Smith lead the team with great strategic acumen and marshalled his sources with great skill. The bowlers responded to their captain and kept chipping on with the wickets turning the final into a rather one-sided affair. At the end, the Unicrons could only manage 111 before being bundled out in 16 overs.

Marco Jansen and Rachin Ravindra starred with the ball for the Freedom as they both picked up three wickets each and played a huge role in breaking the backbone of the Unicorns.
