In a moment of unexpected drama during a practice session, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer Daryl Mitchell inadvertently smashed a fan's phone with a powerful shot, prompting a swift and generous gesture of compensation from the player.

Chennai travelled to the beautiful city of Dharamsala for their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season fixture against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The visitors won a low-scoring contest with a half-strength squad and prevailed against the adversities of the unfamiliar venue.

That being said, ahead of the game, CSK batter Daryl Mitchell was practising throwdowns at the boundary line when an unexpected event caught him off guard.

A few passionate CSK fans had gathered up at the Dharamsala Stadium hours before the game and cheered for Mitchell as he prepared for the game. However, in the rush of blood, Mitchell struck an elevated shot, which hit a spectator's mobile phone and also injured a person adjacent to him.

Daryl Mitchell was remorseful and immediately apologised to the crowd. Furthermore, as compensation, Mitchell gifted his expensive batting gloves to the CSK fan, who was moved by the Kiwi batter's gesture.

Needless to say, the entire incident was an unintentional and unfortunate accident. However, Mitchell's heartwarming gesture and acceptance of a genuine mistake won the fans' hearts.  The video of the entire incident has surfaced on social media and has been widely shared by CSK fans.

CSK meanwhile returned from Dharamsala with a much-needed win to boost their playoff campaign. With 12 points in 11 games, CSK is seated in third place on the points table.

However, with key players like Deepak Chahar and Matheesha Pathirana exiting the squad, things will get difficult for CSK henceforth.
