Indian cricket’s future star Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to attract national attention for achievements that go well beyond his age.
At just 14, the Bihar batting prodigy has been called to New Delhi to receive the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, India’s highest civilian honour for children, recognising his exceptional contribution to sport.
The award ceremony will be held in the national capital, New Delhi, where Suryavanshi is set to be felicitated by President Droupadi Murmu. Following the formal function, he will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other awardees, an interaction designed to recognise and encourage young achievers from across the country.
Why is Vaibhav Suryavanshi not playing against Manipur in Vijay Hazare Trophy today?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s presence in New Delhi for the award ceremony has ruled him out of Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Manipur. The scheduling clash means the teenager will also miss Bihar’s remaining fixtures in the tournament.
He will also soon fly to South Africa with the India Under-19 squad for a three-match One-Day series as part of the preparations for the Under-19 World Cup, scheduled to begin on January 15 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
While his absence is a setback for Bihar, the occasion represents a rare moment of national recognition early in his career.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is awarded annually to children aged between five and 18 for exceptional achievements in fields including bravery, sports, science, innovation, social service and culture. Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s selection reflects the impact he has already made in cricket, as a kid from India on the global stage at a remarkably young age.
On the field, the young batter has backed up his growing reputation with extraordinary performances. In Bihar’s last match against Arunachal Pradesh, Suryavanshi produced a sensational display, racing to a century in just 36 balls.
That blistering knock played a key role in helping Bihar register a world-record team total in List A cricket. From national honours to record-breaking innings, Suryavanshi’s rise reflects a talent moving rapidly towards a much larger stage, with Indian cricket watching closely as his journey unfolds.
