Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has not taken the field for Bihar in their Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Manipur on Friday (December 26, 2025). The 14-year-old batter will also miss the rest of the tournament.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has travelled to the national capital to attend the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) ceremony, where he will be recognised for his outstanding achievements in cricket.

His childhood coach, Manish Ojha, confirmed the development and said that he had to report early in the morning for the ceremony.

The award ceremony is being held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu will honour the awardees. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to meet the children receiving the award and is also likely expected to meet Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

"Vaibhav won't play today's match because he is in Delhi to attend the Prime Minister's National Children's Award ceremony. He will be honoured at the ceremony. He had to report at 7 AM for the ceremony," Ojha confirmed to Hindustan Times.

Why will Vaibhav Suryavanshi miss rest of VHT 2025-26?

After the award ceremony, Vaibhav is expected to join the India Under-19 squad, which will soon travel to Zimbabwe for preparatory matches ahead of the upcoming Under-19 World Cup, starting on January 15.

"He will miss the remainder of the Vijay Hazare Trophy because he has to get in sync for the U19 World Cup and hence will link up with the rest of the Indian team for preparatory matches," he added.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has clearly proved that age is just a number. Earlier this week, the left-handed batter smashed 190 runs off just 84 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His explosive innings included 16 fours and 15 sixes and helped Bihar register a world record total of 574 runs in a 50-over match.

During the same innings, Vaibhav brought up his century in just 36 balls, making him the youngest centurion in List-A cricket history.
