A lot has changed within Pakistan cricket in the last 48 hours as the board announced the central contract for the upcoming season and revealed the squad for the Australia and Zimbabwe tour.
Further, the PCB also announced Mohammad Rizwan as the new white-ball captain for Pakistan. Meanwhile, Fakhar Zaman hogged the headlines as he failed to fetch the central contract and was also not named in the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming tours.
Fakhar Zaman Upset Over Fitness Test Results
Notably, Zaman posted a tweet backing Babar Azam after the latter was dropped from the Pakistan squad for the England series. The tweet did not go well with the PCB, and the southpaw paid a hefty price.
There were reports that Zaman was upset with his ouster from the team and was contemplating retirement. However, in the latest events, PTI reported Zaman is not thinking of any retirement but is rather upset as to why other players who also failed the fitness tests were selected for the team.
Notably, PCB chairman mentioned that Zaman failed a fitness Test. However, the PTI report mentioned that there were several other players other than Zaman, who failed the Test.
“Look, he is obviously upset and disappointed because the selectors and board have apparently applied different sets of rules while taking fitness tests and clearing players. Fakhar has been dealing with a knee issue since 2022, which he believes affected his performance in fitness tests," said the source.
"Despite failing to meet the time for a two-kilometre sprint test, Fakhar is frustrated that other players who also did not meet the required time were still selected for the team. “He feels clarity is required from the selectors on why some players are being favoured,” the source added.
Notably, Pakistan have arrived in Australia for the upcoming series.
