In a significant development, there are reports that India have called up Harshit Rana to the squad for the third and final Test against New Zealand. Notably, the Rohit Sharma-led side will take on the Kiwis on November 1 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The hosts are trailing 0-2 in the series and have now called up Rana, who took a five-wicket haul for Delhi in their latest Ranji Trophy match. As mentioned by Times Of India, Harshit's call-up also means that he will not be available for the fourth round of Ranji Trophy 2024.
It is worth noting that Rana was earlier a part of the India squad for New Zealand series as a travelling reserve, but was released from the squad on DDCA's request to play for Delhi in Ranji Trophy 2024.
Harshit Rana Likely To Make His Debut
There are rumours that Rana will make his debut, as the urgency at which he has been asked to join the Indian squad and leave Ranji Trophy only hints that Gautam Gambhir will hand Rana his much-awaited debut.
Further, India brought in Washington Sundar for the second Test and was given a place in the playing XI. Also, Sundar impressed the critics as he took 11 wickets in that match.
However, the reports of Rana's selection has also started a new debate, where the fans pointed out that Rana is likely to be handed his debut just a day after the final date of IPL 2025 retentions.
It is worth noting that now KKR can retain Rana for just four crores. However, if he had made his debut before October 31, the Riders would have had to spend at least 11 crores to retain Rana's services. Notably, Rana has also been selected for BGT.
