The Adelaide Strikers took on the Sydney Sixers in the fifth match of the WBBL 10. The Sixers won the toss at the North Sydney Oval and opted to field first. The Strikers scripted a dramatic comeback and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat winning the game by 11 runs.
Patterson and Prendergast stabilised the innings for the Strikers
The Strikers struggled at the beginning of their innings. They were struggling at 51/4 in the seventh over when Bridget Patterson and Orla Prendergast got together. The duo stitched together a partnership of 54 runs, restoring sanity to their progress. Amanda Jade-Wellington came up with a fiery cameo of 40 runs from 16 deliveries and took the total to a formidable 171 at the end of their 20 overs.
In the chase, the Sixers lost the wicket of Hollie Armitage early. She was dismissed in the second over of the innings by Darcie Brown.
Brown dismissed Armitage in the second over of the innings
It was the dream delivery of a pacer by the Aussie bowler. On the first delivery of the over, Brown bowled it around the good-length area and moved in a bit after pitching. Armitage was ready to drive the ball on the up but was completely beaten by the deviation. The ball snuck through and clipped the top of the off stump, ending Armitage's stay in the middle.
After the dismissal of Armitage, Sarah Bryce joined Ellyse Perry in the middle, and the duo stitched a partnership of 80 runs and stabilised the innings. Even after the fall of Perry, Bryce continued her good work and took the team towards the target.
Anesu Mushangwe changed the complexion of the game
However, with the fall of Bryce, the game started to change complexion. Anesu Mushangwe picked up three wickets and put the Sixers out of the match. A disciplined and hostile bowling by Strikers' bowlers did not allow the Sixers to score freely towards the end. They were restricted to 160/9 as the Strikers scripted a dramatic comeback and won the match by 11 runs.
