Bangladesh's woes continue as they suffer consecutive defeats, first at the hands of the USA and then in the warm-up match against India before the T20 World Cup 2024.

With their confidence shaken, Bangladesh finds themselves in a pool of crisis. Adding to their concerns, their in-form bowler Shoriful Islam has injured his hand, casting doubt on his availability for the opener against Sri Lanka on June 7th.

In the final over of the first innings, the left-arm fast bowler attempted to block a drive from Hardik Pandya but ended up getting struck on his bowling hand.

Showing visible signs of discomfort, he was soon escorted off the field by Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan. Subsequent examination revealed that Shoriful had sustained a split in the webbing between his index and middle fingers on his left hand.

Shoriful's involvement in the first game can only be confirmed in 2 days after more tests and rest.

Shoriful's absence will put Bangladesh in more trouble

Bangladesh had another subpar performance in their warm-up game against India following their struggles against the USA.

In India's dominant display, the only positive for Bangladesh was Shoriful's bowling performance. He managed to take a wicket, dismissing Sanju Samson while conceding only 26 runs.

"Shoriful suffered a split injury between the index and middle finger of his left hand while trying to stop a ball in his last over," Bangladesh Cricket Board chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said quoted by PTI.

"After initial medical attention, he was taken to Nassau University Medical Centre. The hand surgeon administered six stitches. We will visit him again after two days. We will know then how much time it will take for Shoriful to return," Chowdhury added.

With Taskin Ahmed already sidelined due to injury, Bangladesh will be without their best frontline bowlers if Shoriful doesn't recover in time for the first game against Sri Lanka.
