Sanju Samson had a clear-cut opportunity on Saturday (June 1) to shine with the bat for India against Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.

Since Virat Kohli was unavailable due to his late arrival in the USA, Samson could have easily secured a place in the playing XI for the upcoming fixtures with a significant knock against the neighbours. However, he failed to impress, scoring only 1 off five balls before Shoriful Islam trapped him leg-before during the second over of India's innings.

Samson came to open the innings alongside captain Rohit Sharma, a position where Kohli should potentially play in the prestigious event this time around. The Rajasthan Royals skipper never seemed comfortable at the crease before a delivery which came back in got the better of him.

The ball hit his pad, and immidiately after the LBW appeal, on-field umpire Paul Reiffel raised his finger.

Samson, who is not having his best time in his international career, jokingly signalled DRS, even though he knew it was unavailable during the warm-ups. It would not have saved him anyway, as the replay suggested the ball would have kissed the leg stump.
