Afghanistan stunned Bangladesh in a low-scoring thriller at Kingstown’s Arnos Vale Stadium, knocked Australia out of the 2024 T20 World Cup race, and qualified for the semifinals while being at it.

Here’s the timeline of how AFG vs BAN panned out in Kingstown:

AFG vs BAN Highlights: Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran Take 10.4 Overs To Score 59

In-form Afghanistan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran were perhaps a little too cautious against Bangladesh bowlers on a tough Arnos Vale surface.

The two cricketers listed just 27 runs from the first six overs, before picking up the pace to bring up team fifty in the ninth over of the innings.

Gurbaz made 43 runs from 55 balls to record one of the slowest innings in T20 World Cup history, while Zadran scored a sluggish 29-ball 18 before he was trapped by Rishad Hossain

AFG vs BAN Highlights: Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Run Through AFG’s Middle-Over

Rahmanullah Gurbaz shared another 25 runs with number three Azmatullah Omarzai to set up the foundation of a strong finish.

However, fast bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed fought back for Bangladesh with a wicket each, while spinner Rishad Hossain dismissed Gurbaz and Gulbadin Naib after his opening strike to finish with figures of 3-26.

Their collective bowling brilliance brought Afghanistan down from 84-1 in 15.5 overs to 93-5.

AFG vs BAN Highlights: Rashid Khan Clubs Three Sixes To Take AFG To 115-5

Amidst Afghanistan’s dwindling run-rate in the death overs, captain Rashid Khan clubbed three sixes in his 10-ball unbeaten cameo to take his team to a respectable 115-5 at the end of the innings.

The hard-hitting radical bludgeoned two of those maximums off the final over against Bangladesh's premier fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

AFG vs BAN Highlights: Farooqi, Naveen-ul-Haq Plummet Bangladesh With Early Strikes

Afghanistan’s new-ball pace operators Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq took three wickets between them in the first six overs of the Bangladeshi chase.

While Farooqi trapped opener Tanzid Hasan plumb in front for a three-ball duck, Naveen removed rival skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and senior man Shakib Al Hasan in successive deliveries to reduce Bangladesh to 23-3 in three overs.

AFG vs BAN Highlights: Rashid, Naveen Survive Litton Das Scare In Historic Win

Afghanistan captain and ace spinner Rashid Khan scythed through Bangladesh’s middle-order with a four-wicket burst to finish with figures of 4-23.

Amidst tumbling wickets at the other end, attacking opener Litton Das remained defiant in his approach and kept his country’s prospects alive despite frequent rain interruptions.

However, Naveen-ul-Haq dashed Litton’s rising ambitions by mopping up the Bangladeshi tail in the final over of the match to secure a thrilling eight-run win for Afghanistan.
