Taking a hat-trick in T20 cricket, a format known for its high-scoring nature and fast-paced action, is a remarkable feat. It showcases a bowler’s skill and can dramatically alter the momentum in a team's favor, making the feat even more significant if taken on a grand stage like the T20 World Cup.
To date, nine hat-tricks have been taken in T20 World Cup matches, starting with Brett Lee’s historic first during the inaugural 2007 edition. Celebrating the rare cricketing feat, here at OneCricket, we take a look at each hat-trick taken so far in the history of this prestigious tournament.

1. Brett Lee, AUS vs BAN in 2007 T20 World Cup

Brett Lee took the first-ever hat-trick in the history of the T20 World Cup, doing so back in 2007 during a Group F game against Bangladesh at Cape Town. Lee dismissed Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza and Alok Kapali in the death overs to finish with match-winning figures of 3-27.
2. Curtis Campher, IRE vs NED in 2021 T20 World Cup

Irish fast bowler Curtis Campher picked up the second hat-trick of T20 World Cups, and the first in over a decade by doing so in the 2021 edition against Netherlands at Abu Dhabi. The speedster also continues to remain the only cricketer in the history of the tournament to expand his hat-trick into a four-ball burst.
Campher dismissed four Dutch batters in succession and concluded his four-over spell with ‘Player of the Match’ figures of 4-26.
3. Wanindu Hasaranga, SL vs SA in 2021 T20 World Cup

A couple of weeks after Curtis Campher’s accomplishment, Sri Lankan leggie Wanindu Hasaranga became the first spinner in T20 World Cup history to claim a hat-trick, doing so against a strong South African line-up at Sharjah in October 2021. The cricketer dismissed Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, and Dwaine Pretorius to finish with figures of 3-20. Hasaranga’s spell, however, was tendered in vain as Sri Lanka lost the match by four wickets.
4. Kagiso Rabada, SA vs ENG in 2021 T20 World Cup

South African paceman Kagiso Rabada claimed the third hat-trick of the 2021 T20 World Cup through his match-winning figures of 3-48 against England at Sharjah. Rabada dismissed Chris Woakes, Eoin Morgan and Chris Jordan all in the final over to help South Africa seal a tense 10-run win.
5. Karthik Meiyappan, UAE vs SL in 2022 T20 World Cup

India-born UAE spinner Karthik Meiyappan took a hat-trick against Sri Lanka at Geelong during the first round of the 2022 T20 World Cup, thus becoming the first cricketer in history from an associate nation to bag the rare feat at the big stage. However, his spell of 3-19 was overshadowed by a 60-ball 74 scored by Pathum Nissanka in a winning cause for Sri Lanka.
6. Josh Little, IRE vs NZ in 2022 T20 World Cup

Young Irish speedster Josh Little bagged the wickets of Kane Williamson, James Neesham and Mitchell Santner to claim a sensational death-overs hat-trick during the 2022 T20 World Cup Group 1 match between the two nations at the Adelaide Oval.
7. Pat Cummins, AUS vs BAN in 2024 T20 World Cup

Pat Cummins became the seventh cricketer and second Australian to take a men’s T20 World Cup hat-trick, doing so against Bangladesh at Antigua in a Super Eight match of 2024. The speedster claimed the wickets of Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan and Towhid Hridoy in the death overs and was declared ‘Player of the Match’ for his spell of 3-29 after Australia’s 28-run DLS win.
8. Pat Cummins, AUS vs AFG in 2024 T20 World Cup

Just a couple of days after his match-winning spell against Bangladesh, Pat Cummins claimed his second successive hat-trick, this time against Afghanistan at Kingstown albeit in a losing cause. The Australian captain took each of his three wickets in the death overs to finish with figures of 3-28.
9. Chris Jordan, ENG vs USA in 2024 T20 World Cup

England fast bowler Chris Jordan mopped up USA’s lower-half in the space of an over in match number 49 of the 2024 T20 World Cup at Bridgetown’s Kensington Oval on June 23. Tasked to bowl the penultimate over of the USA innings, the 35-year-old claimed four wickets in five deliveries, including three in succession to finish with match-winning figures of 4-10 in 2.5 overs.
