In the latest developments around IPL 2025, there are reports that Suryakumar Yadav will stay with Mumbai Indians For IPL 2025. Earlier, there were reports that ex-MI skipper Rohit Sharma might leave the franchise after being sacked as captain and Suryakumar Yadav too might shift his base to a new franchise.

While there is no development around the speculations of Rohit moving away from Mumbai, a report from SportsTak mentioned that a source from MI told them that Suryakumar is going nowhere and will stay with the five-time IPL winners. 

“No, he won’t leave. Just people speculating on social media to get engagement,” an MI source told Sports Tak. 

It all started with reports that Kolkata Knight Riders are interested in having SKY back in their team as a captain. None of the franchises have broken their silence on the matter, but the recent reports from Sportstak, is a delight for Mumbai Indians fans, as their team finished last on the table in IPL 2024 under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. 

Suryakumar Yadav's Injury A Concern

SKY, who is focusing on red-ball cricket at the moment has dealt a heavy blow as he suffered a hand injury while featuring in the Buchi Babu tournament. This has resulted in him being ruled out of the first round of the upcoming Duleep Trophy edition which starts on September 5. 

SKY has dealt with several injuries since last year as he even missed the starting of IPL 2024 because of injury. Moreover, all the franchises have crucial decisions to make in a short time over retentions but are waiting for BCCI's decision on increasing the retention cap. 

BCCI's Take On IPL 2025 Retentions 

In July this year, the BCCI held a meeting with franchise owners to take a note of their views for IPL 2025. One of the agendas of the meeting was retentions cap ahead of IPL 2025. The teams were divided over this topic, thus, the board is yet to take any decision.
