Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mark Boucher addressed concerns about Suryakumar Yadav's availability for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, revealing that they are awaiting updates on the fitness of the number one-ranked T20I batter from the BCCI.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is yet to join the Mumbai Indians camp, last featured in the T20I series during the South Africa tour.

Since then, Surya has been sidelined from the sport due to injury and underwent surgery for a sports hernia in January 2024 in Germany. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

As expected, a query about his availability was posed during the pre-season press conference of Mumbai Indians, attended by both captain Hardik Pandya and head coach Mark Boucher. Boucher took the questions and responded by saying:

"We are eagerly awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. While fitness challenges have been a persistent issue, we trust our world-class medical team. We may encounter some setbacks due to fitness concerns, but in the realm of sports, we must persevere."

Recently, on his Instagram account, Surya mentioned that he has been focusing on Strength and Conditioning (S&C) routines, but has not shared any batting videos yet, which would provide insight into his progress.

SKY's last competitive match was a T20I against South Africa on December 14. He was unable to participate in the DY Patil T20 Cup, which marked the return of Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan.

Surya holds the key for MI in the batting department, and his availability and form will be pivotal for the team's success in the upcoming IPL campaign.

However, with Mumbai Indians scheduled to play their opening match against Gujarat Titans on Sunday (March 24) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, there are concerns regarding Suryakumar's availability.

Given his lack of cricketing action for the past three months and his delayed integration into the team, his availability for the opening game remains uncertain.
