Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricketer Anil Kumble firmly believes that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni could extend his tenure with the Men in Yellow in the IPL beyond the forthcoming season.

Dhoni's preparations for the upcoming IPL edition have been in full swing, with the captain cool diligently honing his skills in the nets.

Despite being at the fag end of his career, Dhoni has been batting with supreme confidence during the practice sessions.

The legendary cricketer will mark his comeback to competitive action after leading CSK to victory in the IPL 2023 final after Ravindra Jadeja's wonders against the Gujarat Titans (GT).

In an interview with JioCinema, the former India coach recounted an incident involving Dhoni during an optional training session in Ranchi, his hometown. Kumble recalled how Dhoni attended the session despite not being obliged to, demonstrating his commitment to the game.

"I never played with MS in the IPL. When I played with him in the Indian team, he was the first one to lift me up. I guess he was the strongest of the lot to lift a heavyweight."

"I remember, when I was coach and he was the captain, we were in Ranchi for a one-day game, for an optional practice session, he didn’t need to come as Ranchi is his hometown. But he was there for the session. I said, ‘What are you doing? We still have a couple of days before the next game.’ He said, ‘No, I just want to be around.’ That’s him."

"I won’t be surprised if MS continues to play for CSK because that’s his optional session. He’s so passionate, he wants to be there,” said Anil Kumble while speaking to JioCinema.

The defending champions, CSK will kick off their campaign against Bangalore at their home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on March 22.

CSK's Thala will look to replicate his past successes in the T20 league after leading the Super Kings to their fifth trophy last season. With 5,082 runs in 250 IPL matches at an average of 38.79 and a strike rate of 135.92, Dhoni remains a formidable force in the tournament.
