Steve Smith, one of Australia’s all-time greats, signed a three-year contract with Sydney Sixers ahead of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024/25. The 35-year-old, who joined the BBL franchise ahead of the 2011/12 edition, will keep on playing for the same franchise in the years to come.

Smith will be available for selections in four BBL games in the upcoming season, which include a fixture against David Warner-starred Sydney Thunder. However, if he takes retirement after that, he will be fully available for the next two editions, if not beyond.

"I don't have any plans. I'm just enjoying playing at the moment, I'm pretty relaxed and looking forward to this summer. India's going to be a great challenge, they are a very good side, think we are probably the two best Test teams in the world going head-to-head over five Tests. I'm excited by that," Smith said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

Notably, Smith was with the Sixers when they first won the BBL title, back in 2012. He had been magnificent for them two years, which had breezy cameos one after another. In fact, he also smashed two centuries in five matches back then, becoming the first male cricketer from the side to get to a three-digit mark.

David Warner Sign Two-Year Contract With Sydney Thunder

In other news, Smith's old friend David Warner has signed a two-year contract with Sydney Thunder. As Warner is no longer part of Australia across any format, he will be available for full season in the upcoming edition and more.
