The Gulbarga Mystics were up against the Mangaluru Dragons in the 12th match of the Maharaja Trophy 2024. The two teams faced each other at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The Mangaluru Dragons opted to field first in the game after winning the toss. The Mystics had a good start to their innings as both their openers looked in good touch with the bat. After a stable partnership between the top two batters, the Mystics suffered a minor collapse where they lost four wickets for 21 runs.

Prithviraj Sekhawat played a blinder of a knock

At this stage, Prithviraj Sekhawat arrived in the middle and played a dashing knock. He scored 54 runs off 19 deliveries decorating his knock with three fours and six maximums. However, the end to his innings was not a happy one.

The third umpire game a controversial decision for Sekhawat

On the fifth delivery of the 20th over of the first innings, Abhilash Shetty bowled a slower delivery around the good length. Sekhawat tried to chip the ball over the long-off fence but mistimed it and the ball went off the bottom edge of the bat. The ball fell safe and the fielder in the deep collected it and had a shy at the striker's end.

Sekhawat was struck on the legs by the throw around the mid-pitch zone on his return for the  second run. The fielders immediately appealed for an obstructing the field and the two on-field umpires had a long discussion before sending it upstairs to the third umpire.

Although, in the replays it did not feel like Sekhawat came in the way of the throw, the third umpire after lot of deliberations signalled it out.

The Gulbarga Mystics finished their innings at 169/10 in their 20 overs. The Mangaluru Dragons had a great start to the chase and were stationed at 46/0 in 4.3 over when rain interrupted the proceedings. The rain continued long enough for the match to be abandoned.
