Team India flogged Bangladesh by six wickets in their opening Group A match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami (5-53), Harshit Rana (3-31) and Axar Patel (2-43) collectively picked up all 10 Bangladeshi wickets to fold them up for just 228 in 49.4 overs. For Bangladesh, Towhid Hridoy top-scored with 100 runs from 118 balls while Jaker Ali listed a cautious 68.
In response, opening batter Shubman Gill made an unbeaten 101* and shared 87 runs with wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul for the fifth wicket to take India past the finishing line in just 46.3 overs.
Mohammed Shami Becomes Fastest To Get 200 ODI Wickets
Mohammed Shami picked up figures of 5-53 against Bangladesh in match number two of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Through the course of his match-winning spell, the speedster also completed 200 wickets in ODIs, becoming the joint-second fastest bowler in history to reach the landmark figure.
Moreover, Mohammed Shami also became the quickest bowler in the world, in terms of number of balls bowled, to complete 200 ODI wickets. He surpassed the previous record held by Australia’s thunderbolt Mitchell Starc.
ECB Name England’s Playing XI For Australia Match
The ECB unveiled England’s playing XI for their upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy match against Australia. As per the playing XI, the English team management brought back Jamie Smith in the line-up. Smith will be assuming wicketkeeping duties from Phil Salt. Jofra Archer was also selected in the playing XI alongside fellow pacemen Brydon Carse and Mark Wood.
The Group B match between England and Australia will be hosted by the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 22.
Rizwan’s Pakistan Fined For Slow Over-Rate Vs NZ
The Mohammad Rizwan-led Pakistan cricket team was fined by the ICC for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the opening match of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The apex body slapped the ‘Men in Green’ with a five percent fine, as confirmed in a press release.
The Pakistan team also suffered a huge 60-run defeat in the game after failing to chase down New Zealand’s 320-run total. For New Zealand, opening batter Will Young and wicketkeeper Tom Latham both plundered majestic centuries, with the latter bagging the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
Fakhar Zaman Ruled Out Of Champions Trophy 2025
Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has been officially ruled out from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy owing to the injury he sustained during the tournament’s curtain-raiser against New Zealand. The cricketer also confirmed the development by taking to X on February 20. The PCB has now announced Imam-ul-Haq as Fakhar’s replacement. The Pakistan team is slated to face arch-rivals Team India at the Dubai International Stadium in a must-win game on February 23.
