The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have confirmed England’s playing XI for their opening Group B match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy against arch-rivals Australia. In a notable change, Jamie Smith makes his return to the team to take over the wicketkeeping duties from Phil Salt.

The English cricket team recently faced Team India in a series of three ODI matches on their road towards the Champions Trophy.

ECB name England’s XI for match vs Australia

On Thursday, February 20, i.e., a couple of days prior to England’s opening match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy against Australia, the ECB unveiled the team’s entire playing XI. Fast bowler Jofra Archer was selected in the playing XI by the team management alongside fellow pacemen Brydon Carse and Mark Wood.

Here is a look at England’s entire playing XI for the match against Australia:

Phil Salt, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith (wk), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (c), Liam Livingstone, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood.

England’s primary wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt failed to score notable runs throughout his team’s three-match ODI series against Team India earlier this month. Salt’s poor run with the bat off late might have prompted the team management to opt for Jamie Smith in the playing XI instead.

The Group B showdown between perennial arch-rivals England and Australia will be played on Saturday, February 22. The much-awaited match will be hosted by the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
