The Champions Trophy 2025 started on a good note for Team India as they defeated Bangladesh in their tournament opener. The Dubai International Stadium witnessed a close game as Bangladesh fought hard with the ball after a below-par batting performance.

Bowling first, Team India bowlers got a great start but Axar Patel’s missing hat trick grabbed the attention as Rohit Sharma dropped the catch. After the win, when asked about the miss, the Indian skipper responded in his signature witty style.

Rohit’s Take On Axar’s Hat-trick Catch

While given g a dominating start, the Indian bowlers shined with the ball in the first innings. Among all, Axar Patel’s amazing spell in the 9th over stole the show. After removing Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahman in consecutive balls, he almost removed Jaker Ali in his hat-trick but the table turned as Rohit Sharma dropped the catch and the bowler missed the hat-trick. When he was asked about this, his answer left everyone in splits.

“I may take him for a dinner tomorrow. No, that was an easy catch. I should've taken that catch. The standard that I have set for myself standing in the slips, that one was disappointing. These things happen and I do understand that.”

On Jaker Ali And Towhid Hridoy’s Incredible Partnership

After Team India gave a dream start, Bangladesh collapsed early after losing 5 wickets in just 35 runs. But Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy’s incredible partnership turned the tide. Their incredible 154-run partnership in the sixth wicket gave a massive push to Bangladesh’s total. After winning the match, Rohit Sharma hailed the brilliant partnership.

“I know they were 36/5 and from there they got a big partnership. These things are bound to happen. Credit to Hridoy and Jaker Ali. They played brilliantly and with the bat I thought, we were clinical.”

After wrapping up the opener, the bigger challenge is waiting for India as they are set to face Pakistan in their upcoming match on February 23. With another ICC trophy in sight, the ‘Men in Blue’ are ready to give it their all in this epic showdown.
